Subtracting experience will not reduce the player level. Adding experience such that the player advances more than one level will only give one perk point, rather than one perk point per level. Also, Player.ModAV Experience # will add or subtract experience from your XP pool. On the other hand, a ModAV carryweight 5000 will result in a carrying capacity of 5200, getting an additional point of Strength will make that increase appropriately, and a subsequent ModAV carryweight -5000 will place the value back where it should be based on Strength.
